Kim Kardashion in trouble for copying other designers (again!)

Oh dear, it seems like only yesterday we read about the Kardashian sisters getting an online telling off by handbag designer Botkier for creating some very similar bag styles. Now Kim is getting yet another virtual rap across the knuckles by knuckle duster creator Alexis Bittar - who has now banned Kim from borrowing their jewellery after noticing a few similarities in her Belle Noel line.

"I passed the Dash pop up store on Broadway, and I saw that Kim’s pieces were very similar to mine, and she definitely has been taking note (of my designs). The tricky thing is that we have sent pieces to Kim in the past to wear, so now I have told my staff we cannot send anything to her. She was definitely influenced by my designs without a doubt." Oh dear!

So I’m no designer… I just love to wear beautiful pieces… but isn’t every design influenced by something? There are similarities in clothing, handbags, jewellery, shoes, music, films, art… any kind of expression has an influence from somewhere. I think people need to be less precious and ego-centric, and learn to take a compliment…

I thought everyone took inspiration from others, but it just comes down to ensuring it is at least a bit different, one so that it isn’t a complete knockoff and two so that you have a reason for why someone would buy your piece in the first place. I don’t know how similar the pieces are but wouldn’t you be a little flattered that your products inspired a similar interpretation?
