Tiny decorator: Balcony decor for your small spaces

If you’re a city dweller who is deeply entrenched in apartment life, then it goes without saying that you’re probably a bit low on space, especially on that crucial piece of apartment life: the balcony. Even if you have a stand-alone home, it can be a rare thing to find one with a garden or courtyard big enough to do cartwheels in (which is the official measurement of garden sizes), so you need to be really clever when it comes to design.

Courtyard and balcony decor is a tricky thing. You need to be able to inject in some life and colour but at the same time keep it so that you can still fit in there. Look for potted or hanging plants in cool and quirky pots, furniture that can fold away or trays that can serve multiple purposes (like a milk crate that can double as a storage space OR a seat) so that you can be as clever as possible.

When I'm not working on getting my first novel finished you'll find me buried under the great wall of credit card debt that I've collected over the years. I am a hoarder of shoes, jewellery, books and Disney DVDs and am physically incapable of restricting my chocolate intake.

  1. We’re busy doing renovations and going to build ourselves a little balcony, so even though we also have a backyard, this is such a helpful gallery! 🙂 Can’t wait to deck it out (I think there may a hammock chair in my future! 🙂

  2. @ Larissa- The very first picture, accompanying the article with the three white pots, any idea where that is sold? Tres chic!

  3. Love the main picture. We have a balcony-I just don’t spend enough time on it-need to ASAP!

  4. Any idea as to where I can get the wire pot plant holder in the main picture?
