True story: 10 of the best memoirs and biographies to read in the sun
While I love a good story that takes me on a journey through fantasy lands or escapist plots that let me imagine how the other half lives, there's a special place in my heart for true stories. Growing up my mum would always share her books with me — it's one of the main reasons I know so many obscure facts about celebrities like Elizabeth Taylor and Rupert Everett — so my love of reading encompassed both ends of the spectrum from a fairly young age. These stories range from collections of essays to chronological autobiographies and encompass all facets of the human experience — including love, loss, betrayal and heartache. Some may have been written to make the reader laugh while others have more of a subtle humour that comes from the author's light-hearted point of view. If there's one thing these incredibly diverse books have in common it's that they'll make you feel all the feelings. Even the funny ones will probably make you cry (or maybe that's just teary wimps like me!).
