Spring Racing season made simple (and stylish!)

It’s not hard to talk the girls of this office into buying a fancy new dress and spending the day acting like a lady (well, most of the day anyway), but Spring Racing season is an open invitation for us ladies to really go all out in the wardrobe department, let our hair down and start to enjoy the sunny season.

Whether you're a relative newbie to the season or you have an impressive collection of hats from attending every trackside event from Derby Day to the Melbourne Cup, there’s a lot more to think about when it comes to planning your day out at the races than simply matching your fascinator to your dress. But don't worry, dear readers, because we're here to help you plan your day perfectly!

  1. Always wear sunscreen

You know what's not a good look? Sunburn. Not only will you seriously regret the crazy straps on your dress, which lead to ridiculous tan lines, but surely we don’t have to tell you all by now how bad sun damage is for your skin. You will be standing in the sun all day long so make sure you not only apply in the morning but take it with you and reapply during the day. Your skin will thank you!

  1. Take care of your feet

We all promise that we're not going to be one of those girls at the end of the day walking through the city barefoot with your shoes in your hand, but sometimes you don't realise just how painful your shoes are going to be until it's too late. To avoid at least some of that embarrassment, you will never regret purchasing a pair of fold-up flats — they can usually fit in the smallest of purses and if you have enough room for an additional canvas bag for your heels, then nobody has to know you took them off at all!

  1. Prepare for the weather

While we're on the subject of preparing for the worst, you need to take into account the fact that Melbourne has wildly unpredictable weather, so bring a light cardigan or wrap for when the weather turns sour — because we all know it eventually will!

  1. Pack your own esky

One of the main reasons why so many of us get a little bit disgraced at the races is a lack of food because we so don’t want to waste the day standing in line. Pack a little esky with some sandwiches and snacks for the day, plus a few bottles of water, and you'll still be a lady when the last race is over.

  1. Join Sportsbet.com.au

Since we've already established that waiting in line is not how you want to be spending your day, there's really no reason to waste half your time there just to have a flutter. Since you're no doubt going to have your smart phone in your hand all day anyway (I mean how else are you going to get all those Instagram snaps up?) it just makes sense to sign up with Sportsbet (you can sign up here) so you can have all the races at your fingertips.

Since all our interstate friends don't get a chance to actually attend the Spring Racing Carnival we want you to share in the excitement us Melbournians feel by joining Sportsbet via Drop Dead Gorgeous Daily.  Every qualified customer who places a $5 flutter using our link will receive a Spring-themed Violet Box valued at over $90.

Please note: Violet Box offer is only available to Australian residents from QLD/TAS/NT/ACT
