Standing ovation: 8 standing lamps to tell a tall story
In the words of Brick from Anchorman, I love lamp. Well, I love lamps. In the practical sense I love lamps because I'm a big reader and am one of those people who will contort myself into strange and seemingly uncomfortable positions — that are actually incredibly comfortable for a while — so that I can read for hours at a time and adjustable lamps are able to move around with me so I've always got the best light, but from a purely aesthetic standpoint lamps are one of those things that can transform a room from being a random collection of things to a properly designed room. Standing lamps are the type of thing that you can take one look at and instantly know the style of design they were going for.
Going for an industrial feel? You'll want a tall sturdy lamp made from piping or caging. You wanting a more minimalist yet practical look? Standing versions of the classic desk lamp are where it's at. Is Scandinavian style your thing? Then look for a lamp made from light wood with pastel accents. Sure you can generally make most standing lamps fit in with your room but why force them to become something they're not when they can shout out your personal style with a simple flick of the switch?
