While I am a fiend for chocolate, I've never really been that big on ice cream. As the name would suggest, it is just too cold and creamy for my tastes so while I'll eat it occasionally I'm never particularly interested in making up a big batch of the stuff. A nice fruit sorbet on the other hand, well that's a different story altogether. Give me a smooth, fruity sorbet and I'm one happy woman. Sure, the cold component is still there, but for some reason the lightness of sorbet inspires me to savour the flavour whereas ice cream makes me devour it all insanely quickly and regret it immediately.
The other amazing thing about homemade sorbet is that it's surprisingly easy to make — you pretty much always dissolve some sugar in a liquid and combine it with a fruit puree or basically just mush it all together in a blender. Another great tip: Place a scoop of your sorbet in a nice big glass and top with champagne for a delicious take on a bellini or mimosa.
