I’ll be the first to confess my love of sneakers as my top choice of footwear for day-to-day life. When the whole sport luxe, normcore trend arrived meaning that I could actually wear comfy clothes and be considered fashionable at the same time and sneakers were no longer just for the gym, I was rapt. Finally a trend that I can already work into my own personal style without tweaking it too much — and the best part? It was affordable.
So fast forward a year or two and sneakers are actually real life, acceptable footwear for most occasions. Just recently at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, sneakers were just as much a part of the street style — if not more! — than the latest Gucci pumps.
But now, after almost exclusively wearing sneakers for the past 12 months, I’m kind of over them. I mean, of course I’ll always wear them a lot — after all, I am a girl who is all about comfort first (you won’t see me in heels during the week). But I’m starting to find myself looking for some alternative options. All those old faves that we banished to the back of our wardrobes … I think it’s time we rekindle the love!
Trusty ballet flats, ugly-but-not loafers, and classic brogues or oxfords are all legitimate flat shoe styles to get you out of your sneaker funk and looking a bit more lady-like.
