fashion forum fashion advice

So now I've got the tips from you all about how to apply liquid eyeliner, now I just need to know which brands are worth a try. Any suggestions?

Estee Lauder gel pots are great, I’ve just started using them – they come with their own brush. I find it much easier than a full liquid liner as its easier to control xx

Hmmm…I always look at people with the liquid eyeliner & think it looks AMAZING, maybe I might have to purchase also!

I’m a little unco though so shall be interesting to see if I can work it out! LOL!

Eyeliners that come in-built with a brush like a thin texta are pretty good, especially if you don’t have a steady hand like me! I like the NYX Super Skinny Eye Marker, but it’s kind of hard to find in Australia, though some other brands have them too.

I love MAC Liquid Eyeliner because the applicator is easy to control and the ink comes out beautifully even without being too blotchy – http://www.maccosmetics.com/product/151/341/Liquid-Eye-Liner/index.tmpl xx

I can’t fault Maybelline or Revlon as trusted brands!

I agree, and they both do a “pen” type liquid eyeliner. I am using the Maybelline Line Definer Liquid Eyeliner at the moment as it is super easy to apply either a thin or thick line, and I always get compliments when I wear it!

Currently I’m using Australis IntensifEYE it’s actually really good in my opinion, the brush is a good shape and thickness, easy to apply :)

I’ve tried a ridiculous amount of brands and I can definitely say that the following are some of the best around:

M.A.C Superslick Liquid Eye Liner (the black colour is called On The Hunt) – unfortunately I don’t think you can’t get them online anymore but if you go to your local M.A.C counter they should still stock them. This formula is amazing, once it’s on your eye it does not budge. It is a ‘wet look’ liquid liner.

M.A.C Penultimate Liquid Eye Liner – ( here’s a link: http://www.maccosmetics.com.au/product/151/4253/Penultimate-Eye-Liner/index.tmpl ) – shaped like a felt-tip pen, this is by far the easiest liquid eye liner to use if you’re new to it or just find it a little difficult to master. It’s $32 but will last you ages. It only comes in a deep black colour so you don’t have to worry about colour selection.

Lancome Artliner Liquid Eye Liner – here’s a link to the American store so don’t take any notice of the price as it’s the American one: http://www.lancome-usa.com/Artliner/12230,default,pd.html?dwvar_12230_color=Amber&start=3&cgid=makeup-liners-pencils ) – the formula of this one has a bit more budge than the previous two so it can be easily smudged out (although some people find this a negative thing as it means on very oily eyelids it may smudge or move throughout the day). I can’t remember the exact Australia price but it is somewhere between $45-60 I believe. It has a foam tip which is fairly easy to use and a great colour selection.

If you find that you’re more interested in using gel eye liner then the following are great options:

M.A.C Fluidline Gel Eyeliner – ( here’s a link: http://www.maccosmetics.com.au/product/shaded/151/898/Fluidline/index.tmpl ) – a very creamy, smooth yet completely stay-in-place eye liner. One of my all time favourites, however some people find that it can dry up over time as unless tightly secured the cap can let air into the product. It’s $32 and will last months and months. The black shade is called Blacktrack.
You will need to use an eye liner brush with this, some that I recommend are the M.A.C 209 Eye Liner brush for a basic brush for $37 (http://www.maccosmetics.com.au/product/145/812/209-Eye-Liner-Brush/index.tmpl), the M.A.C 210 Precise Eye Liner brush if you want something thinner for $37 (http://www.maccosmetics.com.au/product/145/360/210-Eye-Liner-Brush/index.tmpl), the M.A.C 263 Small Angle brush if you want to create a cat-eye type flick but struggle for $37 (http://www.maccosmetics.com.au/product/145/823/263-Small-Angle-Brush/index.tmpl), and the Smashbox Arched Eye Liner Brush for easy control and use for $29.95 (http://www.kitcosmetics.com.au/products/smashbox/archedeyelinerbrushno.21/).

Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner – (http://www.bobbibrown.com.au/product/5143/7785/Best-sellers–Eyes/Long-Wear-Gel-Eyeliner/Award-Winner/index.tmpl) – similar to the M.A.C Fluidline but with a better colour selection for $45. Long wearing and water-resistant. You will need a brush with the one as well.

Clinique Brush On Cream Eyeliner – (http://www.clinique.com.au/product/1597/5363/Brush-On-Cream-Liner/index.tmpl) – similar to the M.A.C Fluidline and the Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner, however the cap on this one seals shut much better than the M.A.C version which prevents it from drying out. $37

There is also a version of gel eye liner from Maybelline now which is available at Safeway (Woolworths), Priceline, Chemist Warehouse, etc. It is around $15 (often cheaper) and although I have not personally tried it, I have heard great reviews. It also comes with its own brush, which seems like a great shape and with sturdy bristles.

Good luck!

If you want liquid eyeliner that is cheap yet effective I would recommend Maybelline, especially if your doing the winged – eye the brush is kind of like a ball point pen type of type, works well.
